SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce has announced that it has hired Mark Martinez as its new President/CEO effective October 22.  Martinez comes to the CHCC from Stockton, CA where he was the President/CEO of the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  He replaces Julian Canete who has left the CHCC for a similar role with the CalAsian Chamber of Commerce.

“On behalf of the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce I am extremely happy to make this announcement of Mark Martinez as our next President/CEO,” stated Ernie Gutierrez, CHCC Board Chair.  “Although we are sad to see Julian move on, we are excited to bring Mark on at a crucial time for the CHCC.  He has taken a small chamber of commerce and turned it into one of the most respected organizations in the state.  He has a wealth of experience in the business community as well as an intimate knowledge of the CHCC as a former Board of Director.”

Martinez has been the CEO for the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for the past 8 years.  He has been at the helm of changing the culture of the organization from a local social group to a strong business advocate for Hispanic and minority owned small businesses.  During his tenure as CEO, he has founded and/or created programs such as the Student Financial Aid and College Awareness Workshop, Business Forecast Conference, and the Small Business Strategic Plan Initiative.

“I am excited to join the California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce as its next President/CEO,” said Martinez.  “I am looking forward to working with Chairman Gutierrez and the rest of the Board of Directors.  I can’t wait to get started.”  Martinez is an owner/partner of Premier Security & Fire Inc., a commercial fire and security company out of Modesto.  He was appointed in 2009 by Governor Schwarzenegger to the California Commission on Disability Access and re-confirmed by Governor Brown.  Previously he was Chair of the Planning Commission for the City of Stockton and served on the San Joaquin County Workforce Investment Board of Directors and is a member of the American Leadership Forum (ALF).  Born and raised in Salinas he has called Stockton home since 1997.
