Redistricting Commission Seeks Public Comments on Redrawing Political MapsAfter four months of getting themselves organized, the members of the Citizens Redistricting Commission have begun a statewide tour to obtain community input before they release draft maps on June 10. The commission is planning three rounds of hearings throughout the state. The first round of hearings includes Assembly, Senate, Congressional and Board of Equalization districts. According to the commission’s calendar, a second round of hearings will take place between June 16 and July 1, and a revised set of maps will be released on July 7. Additional hearings will be scheduled between July 13 and July 20, with release of the final proposed maps on July 28. The commission must vote on the maps no later than August 15. By law the proposed maps must be available for public review for 14 days before the final vote. Citizens Redistricting Commission Hearing ScheduleThe first two hearings were held April 9 and 10 in Redding and Marysville. The commission has an additional 19 hearings in Round 1.
